Tony Clemente Jr

Let love destroy you…

Tony was 12 when he decided he wanted to be a writer. The prospect was terrifying. How would he ever fill an entire book with so many words? But despite the fear, Tony felt emboldened to write. He wrote his first novel at 16 and went on to earn a dual Bachelor’s in English (creative writing) and Communications (film production). Discovering the visual storytelling of film changed everything for Tony, prompting him to work in the NYC independent film industry. While working on low-budget sets, Tony earned his Master’s of Fine Arts in Screenwriting.

Tony’s cinematic inspirations are stylized, surreal melodrama, noir, giallo, and New Queer Cinema. His storytelling infuses classical ways of writing from the 20th century with modern themes and narratives. His stories and scripts range from coming-of-age, sci-fi, romance, horror, mystery/thriller, to gothic, erotic, and experimental. Tony likes to find the deepest truths in the unlikeliest of places.

His comedic shorts, "Hopelessly," & "How to Fold a Fitted Sheet," and his dramatic short, "Planet of Love," played in film festivals across the globe. The comedies are available to watch on Amazon Prime and more. His feature screenplay, "Marconiville," won Atlanta Film Festival’s Screenplay Competition and his fiction manuscript, "The Summer is Mad," was awarded a queer author’s fellowship from the Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing.

Tony is also an editor, script supervisor, assistant director, and producer. Most notably, he’s the associate producer and lead editor of feature comedy, "Wild Nights with Emily," starring Molly Shannon & Amy Seimetz, and he was the second assistant director of sci-fi feature, "Lapsis." Both films premiered at SXSW and were nominated for Indie Spirit Awards. His editing work has played in festivals like Edinburgh, Outfest, BAM Cinemafest, Rooftop Films, Provincetown, Hamptons, NewFest, and more. Outside of film work, Tony is an avid reader, songwriter, and photographer. He lives in New York with his boyfriend and their cat.
