“Caustic nights,
sterile lights…”

When I turned 27, I reached a point where I couldn’t keep living like I was. Always putting others first, feeling like I had to stay silent, smaller, softer, I needed a change. Moving to Brooklyn, I spent my 27th year writing my first album. I catalogued each of these experiences and feelings, hoping it would bring some sort of understanding or release.

This is You Like it Softer

I was inspired by the raw honesty and vulnerability of my favorite musical artists: Fiona Apple, Kurt Cobain, Lana del Rey, and Wolf Alice. I’m not one to be limited by genre. The sounds on Softer are sprawling, but it’s mainly a blues-rock record with elements of R&B, pop, and acoustic sounds. Capturing some of my worst moments, I balanced the darkness with levity and humor. If it was embarrassing, difficult, or absurd, it went on the album. I spent so many hours writing it, sometimes forgetting to eat. As I wrote the record, I taught myself guitar and keyboard and recorded demos.

The writing was finished just before I turned 28, marking a year of self-reflection and growth. When I finished writing these thirteen tracks, I felt like an entirely different person. Having documented these experiences, I began to grow and distance myself from them. The heaviest weights I’d been carrying for years fell off my shoulders. You Like it Softer taught me how to expand my writing and storytelling, as well as the healing power of music.

My next musical project is an EP I’m writing called,Where did you go when you disappeared?
Stay tuned for demos and more.
